Many ask us to define what we are, hence why I am writing this blog post. First of all let me explain the differences between a B&B, Inn & Hotel and then explain what guests are calling the Clay Corner Inn after their experience here:
Bed & Breakfast:
Guests are offered private bedrooms, some with their own bathrooms and others that share a bathroom with other guests. B&B's offer a full breakfast and guests sit around a large table to eat. Usually B&B's are owned and operated by individuals who live on the property and run their business of up to 6 rooms by themselves. They do not usually offer any other meals a part from Breakfast. Pricing includes the bedroom & breakfast and many times other amenities such as homemade cookies & beverages.
Very similar to a B&B however you will find that an Inn has over 6 rooms, individual bathrooms for each guest's room and both joint as well as individual seating for breakfast. Inn's will tend to hire professional staff to work in the Inn creating more of a professional atmosphere. Many Inns offer breakfast as well as other meals. Pricing includes the bedroom & breakfast and many times other amenities such as homemade cookies & beverages.
A hotel will offer 2 to 3 meals a day, have a bar and individual meal seating arrangements. Each room will always have a private bathroom and the dcor in the room is generally the same throughout. Many hotels now belong to a chain of hotels so travelers will know exactly what the layout and dcor of the rooms is prior to staying there. The pricing is usually for the room and then all other items are purchased upon request, meals, wifi etc..
THE QUESTION IS, WHAT IS THE CLAY CORNER INN?
Our story is a little complicated since in our name we have Inn because we have 8 bedrooms with individual bathrooms, both individual and joint breakfast areas and also serve meals other than breakfast! However, licenses have the category of B&B & not Inn so we fall into that category. BUT we offer many of the amenities of a Hotel such as en-suite bathrooms, complimentary toiletries, wifi, games room, DVD, CD & book library, full kitchens, lounge areas, business center, air conditioning, extended cable TV, swimming pool and more. Quite a mix wouldn't you say?
Because our guest's opinion is very important we decided to ask them how they see us and this is where it gets even more complicated.. the majority are calling us a "Boutique Hotel" which, in our opinion, is a huge compliment because we are very unique. Please read the definition of a Boutique Hotel below:
A Boutique Hotel falls under a category of being unique, varying in size, setting & offer. They are focused on offering their services in an intimate and comfortable way. They tend to be stylish and have individually themed accommodation trying to meet their guest's individual needs. One of the characteristics is to have individual lounge areas for guest's to relax in. Generally it's a unique and upscale experience.
So the answer to our quandary is that our Guests have come to the conclusion that CLAY CORNER INN falls under the BOUTIQUE HOTEL category.... and we thank you for that.
